North Sikkim is a gorgeous region that has tranquil and picturesque landscapes, and beautiful high peaks which you can include in your Darjeeling Tour Package. A North Sikkim trip itinerary will usually take about 3 to 4 days as it sketches the main attractions of the region. Your expedition to the North Sikkim area commences from Gangtok, which is the capital of the Sikkim state. 

The Gangtok to North Sikkim Distance is approximately 120km lasting approximately 6 to 7 hours of the journey mainly due to its picturesque views. Along the way, you will have to go through lush green valleys, beautiful waterfalls, and lovely villages.  Visit Seven Sisters Waterfalls and Naga Waterfalls to appreciate their splendour.

In the evening, you will arrive in a quaint village called Lachen, which acts as the point of accommodation during your North Sikkim tourist spot exploration. Departure for Lachen and overnight at a hotel in Lachen. On the second day of your North Sikkim itinerary, wake up early and head towards Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,800 feet. The crystal-clear waters of Gurudongmar Lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, are a sight to behold. 

It is one of the most sacred North Sikkim tourist places. After spending some time at the lake, return to Lachen for lunch and then proceed to Lachung. The distance between Lachen and Lachung is about 50 km, and the drive takes around 2 hours. Lachung is the next picturesque yet unseen hamlet right in the centre of the hills. Overnight in one of the hotels in the snowy cool hamlet of Lachung.

The trip is primarily focused on visiting the widely acclaimed districts of Yumthang Valley and Zero Point North Sikkim. You will have breakfast and then embark on a drive to Yumthang Valley christened as the ‘ Valley of Flowers’ a great expanse of the valley that is awash with a variety of alpine many coloured flowers during the spring season hence one of the attractions for tourists spots of North Sikkim.

Even whilst enjoying the magnificence of Yumthang, make your way to the next destination, Zero Point North Sikkim, which is situated at an elevation of 15,300 feet. It is the last point allowed for civilians before the Indo-China border. The terrain at Zero Point is filled with snow and offers great views of mountain ranges, which is indeed a treat within reach. Come back to Lachung for an overnight stay.

On the last day of your North Sikkim trip itinerary, make preparations to leave for Gangtok. On the way consider visiting Mangan, a peaceful town with breathtaking surroundings and active local commerce. Therefore, the distance from Gangtok to North Sikkim has to be traversed yet again in your return journey to the capital as you remember your exploits in North Sikkim and enjoy yourself.

In North Sikkim, the dry seasons which fall within the summer and autumn months are the best time to visit North Sikkim. It is during this period, between April and June, that the weather is very conducive encouraging the exploration of North Sikkim tourist attractions such as Yumthang Valley and Gurudongmar Lake. 

Another period that is also good is approximately between September to November because it is after the rain expectation giving a clear environment and breathtaking views of the mountains. Itinerary

Day 1: NJP Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport - Gangtok (120 Kms | 4 Hrs.)

Welcome on arrival at Bagdogra Airport/NJP Railway station, after greetings proceed to Gangtok, at an altitude of 5500ft.Gangtok is the capital of the state of Sikkim is a beautiful and clean town promising of the best monasteries and landscapes. Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel & rest of the day is free to spend on your leisure. You could explore the famous MG Marg (on your own) this time. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 2: Gangtok - Lachung

After breakfast proceed to to Lachung, (En-route Tashi View Point) is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Evening is free for resting. Overnight stay in Lachung.

Day 3: From Lachung to Yumthang Excursion, Zero Point (Optional) & then a driver back to G

Post early morning breakfast, proceed to Yumthang Valley, which is Known as the Valley of Flowers (11800 Ft / 3598 Mts / 25 Kms / 1-2 hours one way) and Zero Point, further up and about 23kms from Yumthang at an altitude of over 15,000 ft is the place Zero Point (also known as Yume Samdong). On the way back, visit Hot spring, considered to have medicinal properties. Have lunch & move to Gangtok. Upon arrival at Gangtok, check-in to your hotel and stay overnight.

Day 4: Gangtok | Tsomgo Lake | Baba Mandir | Nathu-La Pass (Optional)

After a wholesome breakfast in the morning, you will leave for a visit to the famous Tsomgo Lake. Shaped like an oval, the lake is located 40 km away from the city of Gangtok and has an elevation of about 3,780 m above sea level. Apart from its breathtaking scenic beauty, the lake is also famous for housing the Brahminy Ducks and many other migratory birds. Following this will be a visit to the shrine of the famous Baba Harbhajan Singh, a war hero. The shrine is popularly called the Baba Mandir. Nathu-la Pass to the Republic of China is nearly 20 Kms and is an optional tour (Strictly subject to availability).

Day 5: Gangtok to Darjeeling (72 Kms | 3.5 Hrs.)

After having your breakfast this morning, you will be taken to Darjeeling. All the way, you will be accompanied by the magical beauty of the Himalayas and the beautiful views of the valleys. Do not forget to click pictures of the amazing snow covered peaks and the green hills. Reach Darjeeling and check-in to the hotel, where you will have the evening free to spend on your leisure. You can explore (on your own) the absolute delight of the mall road in Darjeeling.

Day 6: Darjeeling Sightseeing

Early morning at around 3:45 AM drive to 8000 feet / 2440 meters through primitive forests of oak, magnolia to Tiger Hill to view sunrise over Kanchendzonga Peak (subject to clear weather) – On the way back visit Ghoom Monastery, Peace memorial & Batasia Loop – Back to hotel for breakfast - After breakfast next round of sightseeing - Half Day city tour includes Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday), Ropeway, Tenzing Gumpo Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center (Closed on Sunday), Tea Estate, Natural History Museum (Sunday Closed), Peace Pagoda – Back to hotel – Evening free to stroll around the area - Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

Day 7: Transfer to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station

Morning at after breakfast drive. Your arrival at Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station will mark the end of the tour.
