Fort William Kolkata

Fort William is a huge building located in Kolkata on the Hooghly River's eastern financial institution. Constructed in 1696, the fortress bears the name of King William III and served as the country's first British bastion. Covering an outstanding 70.9 acres, the fantastic structure is embellished with masses of arched home windows that offer views of verdant gardens.

The building's outside is adorned with meticulous stonework, which took up to ten years to complete. Nevertheless, it was quickly observed that the shape had a few flaws, and Sir Robert Clive laid the foundation for the development of a brand-new octagonal architecture.

In history, it is said that Fort William has fulfilled numerous roles for the duration of its life, all of which have been opposed to each other. Originally, it became called "the black hole of Calcutta" as it had wings and an inner bastion in which convicts had been dragged. Fort William, which can hold up to 10,000 army personnel, is presently owned by the Indian Army.

It also has capabilities as Eastern Command's headquarters. Only navy infantrymen and their families get entry to the indoors of the fortress because of its importance to Indian intelligence. Only army families can go to the palace to look at its outstanding architecture and capture images there. The Army guards it heavily, and civilian entry is restricted.
