Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple is one of the twelve famous Jyotirlingas which holds immense importance for devotees of Lord Shiva. Located near Dwarka in Gujarat this temple is one of the famous pilgrimage destinations. The term “Nageshwar” refers to the “Lord of Snakes,” it is believed that worshipping here helps devotees overcome the fear of snakes and all types of poisons.

This temple is unique in the sense that the Shiva Lingam faces to the south and the Gomugam faces towards the east. The Shivalinga at Nageshwar is a Tri-Mukhi Rudraksha around 40 cm high and 30 cm in diameter. At Nageshwar one can also find goddess Parvati as Nageshwari and the Shivalinga. A 25 m giant statue of Lord Shiva in the temple complex mesmerises tourists and pilgrims alike with its aesthetic look.

There is a story that is said by locals that a demon named Daruka harassed the devotees of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Shiva appeared as a Jyotirlinga to protect his devotees from that evil demon. The temple plays an important part in the Dwarka circuit which is often included in Dwarka Tour Packages for pilgrims and tourists exploring Gujarat’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

The temple is wonderful during the festival of Maha Shivratri when devotees from across the country come to pay their respect to the Lord Shiva. Visitors to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple often engage in rituals and prayers, seeking blessings from the Lord Shiva.
