The Odisha State Museum is one of the most popular museums in Bhubaneswar that was established in 1932 by Prof. Ghanshyam Das & Prof. N. C. Banerjee in the premises of Ravenshaw College, Cuttak. It is started with small archaeological treasures from numerous places. Later on, it was renamed State Museum by Government order and was shifted in old Bhubaneswar to Brahmananda building in the year 1945-46.
It was initially an archaeological museum having a collection of copper plates, numismatics, terracotta, sculptures, and specimens of fine arts. In 1957, Dr. Rajendra Prasad laid the foundation stone of the building. Later on, in 1960, it was shifted to new building with a name as OSM.
