Physical Fitness: The trek to Vaishno Devi involves an uphill walk of 13 Km. We ensure that you’re physically fit to start your journey and that you will be barefoot or on a horse that is your choice. But this is advisable that when you start your trip then do some light exercises. 
Medical Supplies: Carry basic medical supplies like pain reliefs, ban-aids, antiseptic creams, etc. Don’t forget to carry the prescribed medications that you require.

Pony and Palki Services: If you’re traveling with an old person or you’re unable to trek, then you can avail of pony or Palki service for which you have to pay some amount of fees. These services can take you part of the way or to the temple, depending on your preference. The palki services are mainly for the old people.

Security Check: There are security checks before entering the temple complex. Follow the instructions of the security personnel and cooperate during the screening process.
Photography: Photography is not allowed inside the temple premises. Respect the sanctity of the place and refrain from taking photos.

Return Journey:
Going Down: After visiting the temple, start your going back journey to Katra. You can either trek down or avail of pony or palki services.

A person can reach Katra a town in the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the following means of transportation:
By Air: Jammu Airport which is also known as Satwari Airport is the nearest airport to Katra. From where the visitor can take a taxi or bus to reach Katra, the airport is approximately 50 KM away. The flight to Jammu Airport is connected to all the major cities in India.
By Train: The railway station nearest to Katra is the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, which is well-connected to major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai etc. Once a person reaches the railway station they can easily find or book taxis, buses, or auto-rickshaws to reach Katra town.
By Road: 
From Jammu: Katra is connected to Jammu by National Highway 144 which will take about 1-2 hours to reach Katra from Jammu by road. You can hire or can easily find taxis, auto-rickshaws, or buses to reach Katra town.
From Srinagar:  If you are traveling from Srinagar, you can take the NH44 route via Patnitop to reach Katra. The distance between Srinagar and Katra is around 270 KM and it takes 7-8 hours by road.
From other nearby cities: The place is well-connected by road to other nearby cities and towns in Jammu and Kashmir and neighboring states.

Best Time to Visit
March to October is the satisfactory time to go to Katra because of the great weather which best time for outside sports and pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi Temple. During these months, the temperatures range between 15°C to 30°C, which offers a cushy time for sightseeing and trekking. Try to avoid touring this location for the duration of the monsoon seasons (July to September) because of heavy rainfall and the Winter months (November to February) can be quite bloodless with temperatures dropping beneath freezing factor, however, it's also a beautiful time to visit for people who experience cooler weather and fewer crowds.
