Sightseeing in Madikeri can be enjoyed in two phases, inclusive of local and another place of interest. Raja's Seat
Raja’s Seat is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Coorg. It is a garden on the elevated ground right facing the valleys. Therefore, it is a vantage point for watching sunrise, or sunset. The garden is full of flowering plants and well-facilitated artificial fountains. The garden here serves as one of the favorite spots of the natives especially for picnicking. Also, to make the park more attractive there is a Toy Train through which you can view the entire beauty of the garden. Today this place is taken care of by the Archaeological Survey of India and is considered of significance for the country’s history.
Golden Temple, Coorg
Commonly referred to as the ‘Golden Temple’, the Namdroling Monastery is one of the largest teaching institutes of the Nyingmapa School of Tibetan Buddhism. The prayer rituals of the monks are worth witnessing and this place should be on the list of places to visit in Coorg. Here, magnificent examples of the Tibetan form of architecture and artwork, are painted clearly on the temple tower and outer walls, with beautiful paintings. It was constructed from Bamboo which was donated to the Tibetans exiled by the Indian Government. Today, it accommodates many ancillary facilities such as schools, and hospitals with a population of approximately 5000 Sangha members.
Abbey Falls, Coorg
Abbey Falls popularly known as Abbi Falls is about 10 kilometers from Madikeri and is among the famous places to visit in Coorg city. The water cascade coming down from the cliff from a height of 70 feet offers one of the most beautiful sceneries to watch. The trekking to the falls starts from the entrance and is a one-way downwards of about 200 steps. You will pass through coffee, cardamom, pepper, cocoa, and other spices plantations. Though it is not permitted to bathe in the falls now there is an over-bridge just opposite the falls to see the beauty.
Irupu Falls
Iruppu Falls is a beautiful waterfall flowing through the Brahmagiri Mountain Range in the Coorg district of South Karnataka. It is considered one of the most gorgeous tourist places in Coorg city. Some visitors come here to spend time amidst nature and to marvel at the beauty of the falls. On the way to the falls, you can visit the well-known Shiva temple Rameshwara. This site also has links with the Ramayana, the great Indian epic. The water of the Iruppu Falls is regarded as sacred and capable of washing the sin off the devotees who visit the place.
Dubare Elephant camp
The Dubare Elephant Camp is among the well-known Coorg tourist places. It organizes a camp life that lets the visitors stay and experience life with the trained elephants in the camp. It was a former camp of the Karnataka Forest Department and now turned into a place from where you can easily spot a large number of Asiatic elephants enjoying their natural life. Naturalists are always available in the camp to give different information to the campers about these friendly animals. In addition to elephants, it has other birds like peacocks, kingfishers, and woodpeckers among others. You can also see deer, tigers, and bears here.
Madikeri Fort
Madikeri Fort is one of the famous places to visit in Coorg and attracts tourists every year. This majestic fort gives the tourists an idea about the historical background of Coorg. The structure also has vantage points for a good view of the town. This was first built in the late 17th century by Muddu Raja, who happened to be the ruler at that time to mark the declaration of Madikeri as the new capital of Coorg. At present, Madikeri Fort contains official premises rented to Madikeri’s Deputy Commissioner and some tourist attractions. They include sculptures of elephants at the entrance, the museum, significant relics, and Wall portraits.
Talakaveri
Talakaveri is the birthplace of the river Kaveri, positioned on the Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. You should plan a visit here as it is one of the best tourist places to visit in Coorg. According to historical records, Kodavas built a tank, which is said to have been established as the start of Kodavas. According to mythology, it starts as a spring that feeds a tank or a Kundike and then goes underground and then emerges as Kaveri some distance away. A temple of Goddess Kaveriamma is situated on the bank of the tank.
Omkareshwara temple, Coorg
Sited at Madikeri, the Omkareshwara temple was constructed in 1820 by King Lingarajendra II. It has a Muhammadan architectural style having a central dome. Four turrets are built on four corners of it. Outside the temple close to the door there is a marvelous linga. Another great architectural design of the temple is that there is a water tank in front of the temple where various varieties of fish are found. The highly revered Omkareshwara Temple is definitely among the top Coorg tourist places. On the entrance door, there is a copper plate also at the top in which the history of this temple has been described.
Mallalli Falls
Mallalli Falls is a milky white waterfall located in the northern part of the Kodagu district of Karnataka. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Coorg now. Trekking is perhaps the most preferable mode of transport to reach the place of the Mallalli Falls. There are broad stairs that take the tourists to the waterfall. The government has laid out conveniently to encourage people to visit frequently and explore all areas. This is a set of two falls; the first starts from River Kumaradhara and plunges over 1000 meters deep. If you want to go to the base of the falls, you can follow the stream and gradually step down.
Somwarpet
Somwarpete is the headquarters of Somwarpete Taluka, which falls in the northeastern part of the Coorg district. It has some scenic places around for which this town is known as one of the popular places to visit in Coorg. The major crops grown here are coffee and spices where crops like peppers, ginger, and cardamom are predominant. You can go trekking at Honnamana Ker which is famous for rock climbing. Besides it, Gavi betta and Mori betta a thrilling spots that are a favorite for adventures. Additionally, visit the Honnamana Kere Lake and if you have extra time do boating and fishing.

Coorg, a picturesque city, is an important and central tourist destination in Karnataka, and is surrounded with plenitude of scenic spots. Dubare: Dubare is situated at a distance of 18 km from Kushalnagar. It is an unending expanse of 11 acres of fascination. Maintained and taken care by Karnataka Forest Department, Dubare is all a sight to behold.
Bylakkupe: In the exodus from Tibet that followed the 1959 Chinese invasion, thousands of Tibetian refugees settled around Bylakuppe, 5km southeast of Kushalnagar, where Karnataka Government gifted them 1200 hectares of land.
Kakkabe: A must-see- the heaven of nature, Kakkabe is coiffed with amazing avifauna species, honeycombs, rare-to-be-seen orchids, and plants. An untainted piece of land, clear of hoardings and advertisements, Kakkabe is nature’s lab.
