The region of Dooars consists of an area of about 880 sq. km., is divided by the Sankosh River into Western (also known as Bengal Dooars) and Eastern Dooars (also known as Assam Dooars). Terai in northern India and southern Nepal closely resembles the Dooars. The region of Dooars, with a wide of about 30 km, stretches over about 350 km from the WestBengal's famous Teesta River to one of the main rivers of Assam known as Dhansiri River. This region opens a gateway to another beautiful country Bhutan.
Politically, the region of Dooars constitutes the whole of Alipurduar district and Jalpaiguri district, WestBengal's upper region of Cooch Behar district, the Bongaigaon district and Kokrajhar district of Assam, and the plains of the Kalimpong district in West Bengal. According to history, Dooars was divided into two parts: the Western part was turned into Western Dooars as a new district, and the Eastern part was merged in Assam with Goalpara district. Later, it was named Jalpaiguri district.
The area of Dooars elevates by a range of about 90 m to 1,730 m. From the mountains of Bhutan, some innumerable streams and rivers flow through the beautiful mountains' fertile plains. The two major Rivera of Assam is the Brahmaputra (also known as the Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet) and Manas (also known as Drangme Chhu in Bhutan and as Niamjang in China).
By the middle of June, the monsoon continues till the end of September. The best part about this place is that summer is pleasant here as it only stays for a short period while the nights and winter days are mostly foggy and misty
