People / Population: The total population of Chhattisgarh is approximately 176.15 lakhs. The people of Chhattisgarh comprise of a diverse urban population with people from the neighbouring states who migrated into the state in search of work. The major tribal groups of Chhattisgarh are the Gonds with the other smaller tribes like the Kanwar, Brinjhwar, Bhaina, Bhatra, Oraon, Munda, Kamar, Halba, Baiga, Sanwra, Korwa, Bharia, Nageshia, Manghwar, Kharia and Dhanwar tribes.
Religions: About two-third of the people of the district are animists and one-third are Hindus. There is a minority of Muslims in the state. There is a large percentage of converted Christians in the state also. Chhattisgarh is a depot of literature, arts and crafts. Hinduism is the main religion in the state. Then there is a sizable population of Muslims and Buddhists. A majority of the people of Chhattisgarh belongs to tribal communities. Many of the tribes converted to Christianity under the influence of early missionaries who worked in the area.
Languages: There are two main languages spoken in the region, which are Hindi and Chhattisgarhi. The tribal people have many other languages, which they use to communicate.
