Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary is a vibrant sanctuary which is known as the “Amazon of the East” and “Jeypore Rainforest.” This sanctuary is located in the Dibrugarh and spans 111.19 square kilometres it is part of the larger Dehing Patkai Elephant Reserve. The sanctuary is well known for its dense rainforests, with large trees and a high level of biodiversity. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary on 13 June 2004.
It is home to a variety of flora and fauna. This sanctuary includes wildlife like elephants, tigers, leopards, clouded leopards and many varieties of monkeys such as hoolock gibbons and capped langurs. The sanctuary is a blessing for birdwatchers as they can visit various bird species, including the white-winged wood duck and the great hornbill. The oldest refinery in Asia in Digboi and 'open cast' coal mining at Lido are located near the sanctuary.
