Gun Hill

Gun Hill which is known as the extinct volcano is the second-highest peak in Mussoorie at a height of 2024 meters. One can see the entire beauty of Mussoorie Hill Station as well as the snow-covered Himalayan mountains directly next to the expansive Doon Valley from the summit of this hill. The hill got its name since there used to be a gun at these hills back before independence. To allow people to change their watches during those days, the gun was fired throughout the day.

Situated at 400 feet above Mall Road, Gun Hill is a well-liked destination, particularly for photographers and others who enjoy the outdoors. The main attraction of this place is  Gun Hill's ropeway, which offers a beautiful view images of the Himalayan peaks.

Gun Hills  Weather

Spring:

Temperature: 10°C to 21°C.

Weather: This is the best time to enjoy the beauty of this place as visitors will witness the mild cold with little rain. It is advisable to carry a light jacket and thin sweater with boots and comfortable footwear.

Summer:

Temperature: 21°C to 32°C.

Weather: During this season the weather is a little hot and warm but evenings are a little cold.  Clothes visitors have packed like T-shirts, shorts, sunglasses, hats and light sweaters or jackets for evenings.

Autumn:

Temperature: 4°C to 18°C.

Weather: The days are not so cold and not so hot but the evenings are colder than the days for which you have to carry sweaters, jackets and proper footwear. 

Winter:

Temperature: -6°C to 4°C.

Weather: The weather is cold and you can witness snowfall so it is advisable to carry Thick jackets, thermal layers, thick sweaters, caps, gloves, and scarves are examples of heavy winter attire.

How to Reach

This attraction of Mussoorie can be reached from the Dehradun Railway Station which is about 34km away and it will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive to reach Gun Hill.  It is only 1.7 km from the Library Bus Stand, Cart Road and Mall Road. Buses and taxis ply these quite frequently.
