This temple is the first of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva which is known as Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple. This place is located on the western coast of Gujarat and is one of the oldest temples in the country. The importance of this temple is mentioned in many holy texts of the Hindu religion like Shreemad Bhagavat Gita, Skandpuran, Shivpuran and Rig-Veda as one of the most celebrated pilgrimage sites. The temple is situated on the ancient Triveni Sangam of three rivers - Kapila, Hiran and Saraswati.
Somnath temple is famous for its eternal shrine. Its beauty has continuously grown despite multiple destructions in the past done by up to seventeen rulers where Mahmud Ghazni, Alauddin Khilji and Aurangzeb destroyed the temple.
