Vietnam’s history has been more like a nightmare that to a great extent was responsible for ruining the country’s cultural values and socio-economic conditions. It has witnessed several wars in the past that have resulted in innocent people losing their lives. Natives have fought French colonialist rule to attain freedom and the wounds that are not healed still show when one interacts with the locals here.
Till the 1880’s the French Empire controlled Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. In the mid 19th century their poor leadership invited revolts from locals her. This was also the time that the country went through periods of floods and epidemics that degraded the economy further.
Years later the French signed a treaty which gave France the right to three Eastern provinces. After several wars that caused lots of damage, the country is now finally exiting its sketchy past. Today it is one of the fastest-growing countries in the world.
The history of Vietnam remains incomplete without the mention of the iconic leader named Ho Chi Minh who led the Viet Minh Independence in 1941 and in 1954 defeated the French army. After the war, he officially stepped down from power in 1965 due to health issues. Later, Saigon city was named after him to pay tribute to this great leader.
