Situated in the desert state of Rajasthan, Ajmer is one of those cities that will simply sweep you off your feet with all the historical, cultural, and religious marvels it embodies. There is an ever-present nostalgia for the ancients as one strolls in its narrow lanes and among the old relics. From beautiful palaces standing on rough hills to calm waters of the oasis reflecting a barren land, Ajmer is a cornucopia of adventures for those who travel. Be it spiritual, historical, or even plain restful, Ajmer tourism has it all.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah

The top attraction in Ajmer tourism is the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, which is the grave of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, known as Ajmer Sharif. As you near the dargah, you will be surrounded by the fragrance of incense and rose petals. The dome and decorations of the various structures within the shrine are intricate engravings that only those of Mughal architecture can match. Most of those who visit this place are pilgrims and once inside, the sound is eloquent with prayers as if the walls themselves are humming.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah Distance: The Dargah is at the centre of Ajmer and is only 2 km from the railway station Ajmer Junction, so the fires can be reached there without any trouble.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah timings: The Dargah is open from 5 am to 9 pm throughout the week, providing enough time for people to capture its spiritual mood.

Taragarh Fort

Taragarh Fort, perched high on the hill Taragarh, shows how Ajmer has evolved into a sublime region in the bygone years. It is a hill fort in the city of Ajmer built in 1354 AD by Ajaypal Chauhan. It is one of the oldest hill forts in India. A part of the fort's thick barriers has attested to the fort's imposing past. But what strikes me the most is the scenery of surrounding hills and towns, which extend from the top of the fort. Below them are the remnants of great reception halls with reservoirs for various types of Yagnas, connected by an incredible complete system of tunnel escapes used by defenders in case of siege.

Taragarh Fort timings: It opens to the public at 6:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm every day, which allows the possibility of catching dramatic views from the fort.

Ajmer to Taragarh Fort distance: The fort is located on a hill of about 3 km. and around 30-45 m to climb, although one can enjoy the trials that lead to the best view of the different places in the city.

Nasiyan Jain Temple

In the supposed Ajmer Places To Visit, the Nasiyan Jain Temple also stands as a place to be. The two-level structure, named Soniji Ki Nasiyan, also finds devotion and worship in Rishabhanatha, the first Tirthankara of Jainism. The temple colossally depicts the ancient world of Jain tradition, which is a central chamber on the first floor only. This representation is gloriously made of gold. Each of these miniature figures gives such crystal clear scenes of Jainism that it almost feels like once upon a time, the stories were dramatised in gold with glittering decorations.

Nasiyan Jain Temple timings: The opening and closing hours are quite limited, ranging from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with an opportunity for visitors to reflect on the beauty.

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra

The Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra or Sheder of two and a Half-in-days is another one of the best places to visit in Ajmer, and it speaks volumes of the city's past. According to folk belief, this mosque was built in two and half days, giving the monument its peculiar title. It was originally established as a Sanskrit college in the 12th century, but it was transformed into a mosque under the leadership of Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak. The use of both Hindu and Islamic styles in enhancing the beauty of the guest house is phenomenal, with beautifully sculptured supporting pillars and a huge arched screen that is awed by visitors.

Anasagar Lake

To escape the chaotic city for a while, head to the wonderful Anasagar Lake. This manmade lake, which was constructed in the 12th century by Arnoraja Chauhan, is perfect for some rest and inner peace. The pictures of the lake are complemented by the beautiful Baradari pavilions built by Shah Jahan in the 17th century. On this marble building, you may enjoy a beautiful view of the sun disappearing behind the prone and still lake's surface. Beautiful gardens around the lake are perfect for a nice picnic or simply lounging with an interesting book.

Soniji Ki Nasiyan.

It's true that many people may miss one of the Jain temples known as Soniji Ki Nasiyan to a more famous one. However, this temple is also worth your time visiting on the Ajmer tour. The Jain temple, located in Ajmer and dedicated to Rishabhanatha, is well known for its excellent craftsmanship and exquisite decorative details. Among other things, special attention is drawn to the hall of ‘Swarna Nagari’ (City of Gold), containing a complex model of Jain’s world. This world is made of 1000 kg of gold and impresses through its detailing so much that such a centre will be interesting to view by everyone who undertakes trips regarding Jainism and art related to it.

Mayo College and Museum

If you want to know something about Indian colonial history, you could go to the famous Mayo College. This school, which was opened in 1875 for Indian aristocrats, seems a feast for the eyes with its Indo-Saracenic architecture. All the college’s buildings and museum located on the first floor contain very informative information on the college. Lush green lawns surrounded by heritage buildings, especially vintage photographs, ancient artefacts, foliage and manuscripts, almost every exhibit tells about the interesting way of life in Indian society during British rule. The quiet ambience, together with the splendour of architecture, makes this place a nice one to sit idly on a relaxed day.

Prithvi Raj Smarak

One of the best places to visit In Ajmer is the Prithvi Raj Smarak. Declared in memory of the fearless ruler, Rajput Prithviraj Chauhan, this memorial is a tribute to the history of Ajmer. The smarak has been engraved with an embellished statue of the king on a pedestal, let alone his figure. The adjoining park is a perfect retreat for the viewer’s contemplation, and there are many writings about the life and times of Prithviraj Chauhan, making it a helpful place for a school trip.

Nareli Jain Temple

For something earlier than the extremes of exquisite Jain architecture, one must visit the Nareli Jain Temple situated on the outskirts of Ajmer. It is a remarkable structure completed in 2015 that showcases the synthesis of traditional and modern architecture. In addition to the main temple, the complex consists of 24 small temples, each dedicated to a particular Tirthankara. The calm environment and the architecturally beautiful temple are very good for concentration and sound peace.

Akbar’s Palace and Museum

The Mughal king Akbar ruled from his Palace and Museum, where splendour knows no bounds. It's a fun fortress built by emperor Akbar in 1570, and it is about the life of Mughal emperors. It encloses many more galleries but mostly belongs to the Mughal and Rajput arms, sculptures, and miniature paintings. Because of the blasting of different Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, one baptised himself in the waters of the active and tolerant Akbar. This is certainly a touch for history fans.

Foy Sagar Lake

On the other hand, if you want to have a quieter day away from the city noise, you can go to Foy Sagar Lake. This man-made lake, built as part of famine relief construction in 1892, serves many purposes for nature and photography. The stillness of the lake's water, along with the curves and rises of the Aravalli hills, stands in the picture, especially at sunsets. Bird lovers would be pleased with this habitation as it is also home to many kinds of birds, making it a great area to relax or roam.

Be it searching divinity at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, delving into the historical monuments of Taragarh Fort and Akbar’s Palace, or relaxing by the waterside at Anasagar and Foy Sagar lakes, Rajasthan Tourism is no less rewarding. While creating an itinerary for Ajmer, one may find it tempting to use Ajmer tour packages or any Rajasthan tour packages with these places included so you can better understand what this wonderful region has to offer.
