Coir and Carpet products are quiet famous at Alappuzha than other places in Kerala. Pepper, coconut, arca, nutmegs, cardamom and sugar are sold at cheap prices and better bargains at Alleppey. Alleppey has Hoard of Coir Products on display right from raw coconut husks to rope to products hand made out of the coir. Silk sarees, fresh fruits, and locally made handicraft are some of the best buys at Alleppey. Pocket-sized markets are seen sans crowd (festive days are exceptions), on regular days. Tourists can shop for gold (trusted shops) and cashew nuts from these Alleppey Markets too.
The streets abutting Mullackal Shopping Junction are crammed with perfumes of lime, jasmine, and sandalwood and spices (vendors selling sandalwood, cloves, lime sit every half a meter on the busy road). This is the place where people of Alleppey come to shop for wedding and festival purposes. In winters, this place gets filled with pilgrims from Sabarimala and streets are crammed with vendors. During this time one can shop for knives, combs, games, toys, and clothes to incense, local handicraft, and heavy metal utensils.
