By Air: The shortest route to get to Dharamshala is by air. The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport, also known as Kangra Airport, which is located roughly at a distance of 15kilometres from Dharamshala. It has daily flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to Gaggal Airport provided by Air India and SpiceJet. The flight duration is approximately one hour and ten minutes. You can take a taxi or a bus that will take you thirty minutes to reach Dharamshala.
By Train: If you want to take a train to Dharamshala, then the closest railway station is Pathankot railway station which is approximately 86-90 kilometres away. From there, you may opt for Dharmsala via a taxi or bus taking about three to four hours of drive. AmbAndaura Station is also another option where you will have to take a train followed by an hour-long taxi ride covering about 88 kilometres towards Dharmasala. This provides an attractive path through the hills, which are comfortable with scenic views.
By Road: Bus travel is very popular and affordable as well. Direct buses go up to Dharamshala from major cities such as Delhi and Amritsar, among others. From Delhi, it's around 490 km to Dharamshala and it takes between 10-12 hours by bus. Buses leave Kashmiri Gate ISBT and Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi. From Amritsar, it's about 200 km, with an average journey time of between four and five hours on the bus. Regular services are operated by both state-run as well as private operators thus ensuring a comfortable trip.
