Our trip in this town doesn’t only entail us viewing its attractiveness but also touching the hearts of its people and living through their culture.

Ita Fort
Located in Itanagar, the Ita Fort continues to serve as a historical touchstone that has defied the passage of time. After all, the fort’s name, derived from the Assamese word “Ita” means brick, thereby revealing what it is made of and also providing an etymological root for Itanagar. The famous monument lies just outside the main city and is easily accessible by road from Papum Pare district. Lasting about 16-20 minutes, covering nearly 4km, this drive can also be served by plenty of local transportation.

The origin of this fort dates back to Chutia Kings during their reign in Northeast Indian history. In architectural terms, Ita Fort is known for its large scale and extensive use of bricks amounting to approximately eight million dating back to 14th or 15th centuries. Ita Fort lacks uniformity but has natural ridges together with strategically placed brick ramparts making it more fortified against any invasion attempt. Entrances can be found at three points while steep ridges surround it with hills acting as natural defense.

These include those on the eastern side stretching approximately 500 meters towards Dikrang Valley and those on the west side that are about 1.4 km long along the Senkhi River. Thus, this ancient fort is not only a window to ancient architectural practices but also bears testimony to the rich history of Arunachal Pradesh, thereby making it a must-visit site for historians.

Buddha Temple
The Itanagar Buddhist Temple not only serves as a religious place, but also as a symbol of peace and tranquility in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital which is located on top of a hill. This Buddha Temple is one of the beautiful Buddhist shrines in India and has a vibrant yellow roof, a feature that seems to stand out against the greenery backdrop of the land of dawn-lit mountains. This structure reflects the significant Tibetan influence on its construction and worship.

A prominent stupa, bearing an image of a monk is found right at the front part of this temple symbolising its devotion to Buddha’s teachings. Moreover, it adds historical importance to this site because one tree was planted by HH Dalai Lama himself, making it important for anyone wishing to connect with Buddhism.

This lake lacks connection with flowing rivers as well as streams hence its green appearance gives it a unique look making it mysterious.

As a result, many tourists flock to the place. It provides an ideal spot for picnics in which families can enjoy each other’s company under cool breeze and sunny weather. These features together with ancient forests around and tall trees make up breathtaking scenery that embraces photographers and nature enthusiasts. There are boating facilities available on the lake for those who want some adventure.
