Rann of Kutch
Rann of Kutch Gujarat is a vast stretch of barren land with a terrific earth, located away from the coast and great to behold. It is famous for hosting the Rann of Kutch Festival known as Rann Utsav. This colorful fair is celebrated between November and February, and through which tourists can explore the color, craft, music, and dance of Kutch. Tourism services include accommodation in luxury tents, camelback trips, folk performances, and dances. The area was once a vast shallow of the Arabian Sea but a constant tectonic movement entirely sealed off the connection with the sea. During summers the water evaporates and forms a crispy bed of white salty land. The distance from Ahmedabad to Rann of Kutch is around 272 kilometers. Kutch museum
Established in 1877 the Kutch Museum is known as the first museum in the Gujarat region of India. This magnificent museum was established by the Maharao Khengarji III of Cutch (the Kutch of that era). It is one of the oldest museums of Gujarat and has many rarities such as the extinct Kutchi script and rare coins. Kutch museum photos include photos of embroideries, paintings, arms, musical instruments, sculptures, and metals. Apart from locating the largest of the inscriptions from the Kshtrapa period of the 1st century AD, this museum also extends a chronological history of the Kutch region. This two-storied facility hosts a range of displays spread over eleven distinct areas. On the ground floor is the beautiful carving of the Airavat which is also known as the white Indian elephant that has seven tusks. Hindu mythology tells the story that the Airavat is generally called a vehicle or ‘vahana’ of the Hindu god Indira.
Dholavira
Famous as a fine archaeological site associated with the Indus Valley Civilization, Dholavira Gujrat was one of the most developed townships around 4500 years ago. The lifestyle bits of the ancient city of Dholavira which could accommodate human inhabitation thousands of years ago still exist. Beginning with societal formats carved into the core, the middle town, and the periphery, it has clearcut partitions of dwellings, water spigots, and conduits even today. Its main focus was on the Indo-Aryan occupation of the region, its linkage with the late Harappan cultural phase, and the emergence of the Indo-Gangetic plains civilization. Many remains including earthen pots, beads, jewelry, and other artifacts were unearthed too. The urban planning and architecture of Dholavira Kutch were perhaps the most advanced of the time, more specifically the town had an exceptional system of water conservation. The distance from Bhuj to Dholavira is around 130 kilometers and it takes 3 hours to reach from Bhuj.
Mandvi Beach
Mandvi Beach Kutch is one of the most famous places to visit in Mandvi Kutch. It is loved for its cleanliness and quiet strip of coastline. Most of the picturesque beaches of Kutch are crowded and commercial tourist beaches. Hence, you can spend some quality time with family and friends. Apart from it being a ‘beach’ location, it is famous for camping, and many water sports. Located adjacent to the famous Vijay Vilas palace estate in Bhuj, this place is an unexplored tourism abode of white waters and blue skies. Start up for a long walk through the shoreline as you enjoy the sunset, go bird watching, or take horseback rides. You can enjoy other famous Mandvi Beach activities like going for a camel ride, which takes you around the whole territory. You can just relax, and practice yoga listening to the sea. Mandvi Beach's distance from Kutch is around 114 kilometers.
Vijaya Vilas Palace
Vijay Vilas Palace was constructed during the period of the Maharao Shri Khengarji III, the Maharao of Kachchh, to act as a summer home for his heir, the Yuvraj Shri Vijayaraji. It is built with red sandstone and has all the features of the Rajput architectural style. It has a central high dome on the pillars, windows, carved stone ‘jalis’, domed bastions at the corners of the building, the extended porch, and other various beautiful stone-carved elaborations that make the palace worthy of a visit. Surrounding it are landscaped gardens with alleys for water courses and marble fountains. Some ornamental carvings included the Jalis, Jharokas, Chhatris, Chhajas, murals, and many engraved and brightly painted stones. You can enjoy the cool wind blowing out from the small statuary windows. Vijaya Vilas Palace has a beach where visitors can find tented facilities for accommodation and is considered one of the most beautiful places to visit in Rann of Kutch.
Kalo dungar
Located to the north of the village of Khavda in Gujarat at an altitude of 460 meters, the Kalo Dungar peak remains the highest in Kutch. It is counted among the best places to visit in Kutch. The place is well known for its ultra-picturesque view of the Great Rann of Kutch and sunset. There is a temple 400 years old dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. The Kalo Dungar Kutch or black linear hills are the best examples of an optical illusion where cars appear to be ascending against the gravitational force. You can try food at the bhojnalaya here intending to unite people from all fields for a single meal that is offered for free. Due to its proximity to the Pakistan border, there is an army post situated at the summit. So, photography is limited in this area. Those interested in seeing the Rann of Kutch from a different angle should go up to Kalo Dungar Gujrat.
Roha fort
The Roha Fort is one of the most amazing places to visit in Kutch. It was built fort over 560 years ago which is linked to the monument. Sitting on a strategic location at the top of Roha Hill, it provides a commanding majestic view of the surrounding area. This fort was constructed based on the Rajput along with Mughal dominant architectural building plan has a strong wall, bastions, and carved arched doorway. This fort is sometimes called ‘Sumari Roha’ because it was founded in the name of the poet-saint Sumara. There are folktales associated with the fort and thus many believe it may be haunted due to its dilapidated condition. Unfortunately, it is now in dilapidated condition but the view of the over area and the history of Kutch is seen here. The place is a favorite spot for history lovers, photography lovers, and people who are interested in exploring a few offbeat places.
Narayan Sarovar
Located at a distance of 125 kilometres by road from Bhuj, Narayan Sarovar Gujrat occupies an area of about 444 sq. km and is one of the unique places to visit in Kutch Bhuj. The place embraces numerous mammals inclusive of the chinkara, the rare Indian wolf, wildcats, desert foxes, honey badger, and wild boar. It also offers a view of nearly 184 different avian varieties such as waterfowl, black partridge, houbara bustard, lesser florican, and the great Indian bustard. Apart from these, the Black Partridge a typical bird of desert habitat is also found at these places. About 252 types of plants are present in the Narayan Sarovar Kutch including gorad, babul, kerdo, and many others. This exceptional ecosystem also contains excellent bio-diversity with some rare animals and birds and some of the rare flowering plants. Most of the area of the sanctuary is covered by grassland and scrub forest.
Siyot Caves
Siyot Caves, also known as Kateshwar Buddhist Caves are located in Siyot village of Lakpat Taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat state.
Gujarat tourism proudly presents these caves which fall under the 1st century AD are five cut-rock structures. This cave system is thought to be one of the 80 monastic sites that Chinese travelers reported existed during the 7th century. Siyot Caves contain an east-facing chapel and a processional gallery that make them look like Buddhists in nature. These caves depict stunning works of art and stunning architecture of the bygone era. An excavation of the cave in 1988-89 brought to light clay seals depicting the Buddha in two mudras, acanya, and bhumisparsa mudra, and also engravings in the late Brahmi as well as Devnagari’s. Other discoveries of the excavation are copper rings, Gadhaiya coins, terracotta of Nandi with bell and chain, earthenware surahi, etc, which you can explore on your trip.
