One of Gujarat's most famous ancient cities is Patan. It used to be the capital of Gujarat in the Medieval period during the rule of the Chalukya dynasty. Known for its silk Patola sarees, Patan also has various tourist spots. The city is filled with ancient temples, classic architecture, festivals, mouth-watering dishes, and colorful markets. Both Hindu and Muslim dynasties have ruled over Patan in the past, making the city diverse. Along with Hindu and Jain temples, Patan also has mosques and dargahs.
Located in northern Gujarat, Patan is bounded by Banaskantha district in the north and northeast, the Mehsana district in the east and southeast, and the Surendranagar district in the south. Areas like Harij and Sami, bordering Kutch, are quite deserted as there is no settled population between there and the border of Pakistan. The best time to visit this not-so-crowded Gujarati city is during the winters because the weather is very pleasant and cool. Patan tends to get humid during the monsoons, and in the summer, you will have to face the scorching heat.
