Kasauli is a small place not much to be done or seen at. It is sited at a height of 1795 meters above sea level. A small hill station, located 77 kms from south of Shimla. Kasauli is known for its hygiene and beauty and attracts a large number of tourists, especially on the weekends. It is a quite hill station famous for firs, rhododendrons, chestnuts, oaks and willows. The places to be seen in the region are listed below.
Monkey Point: It is the highest point in Kasauli and is located just four km from the Kasauli Bus stand. A picturesque view of the far-flung plains of Chandigarh region and the meandering river Satluj can be seen from this point. Also there is a small temple on the top of the hill, which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. There is a legend that when Lord Hanuman was returning from the Himalayas after obtaining Sanjivany Booty, his foot touched the hill and thus the top of hill is in a foot shape.
A lot of monkeys can be seen here. This point is under the authority of the Air Force of India, and one has to take prior permission to visit Monkey Point. Camera and mobile phones are not allowed in this area.
Christ`s Church: Still unspoiled and very much as the British left it fifty years ago, Kasauli has a fine old church. The Anglican structured church is sited near the bus stand. It was built by the British family who founded the town of Kasauli. The church is a beautifully built cross-shaped. It is situated amidst a grove of chestnut and fir trees.
Baba Balak Nath Temple: The temple is located 3 km away from Kasauli and is one amongst the famous temples of Sidh Baba Balak Nath Ji. The temple is located on the Graner Hill top. There is a mythology that one night, Baba appeared in dreams of Vijay Kumar, a locale and asked him to build a temple at this place. There is also a belief that prayers of childless couples will be granted with a child, whose baptism ceremony is also performed here. Several photos of such blessed children are kept in this temple.
Sanawar: Situated 6 km away from Kasauli at an altitude of the 1750 m. The place is known for the Lawrence School. The school is 150-year-old and is one of the best public schools in India. the school was founded by Sir Henry M. Lawrence and his wife Honoria. The school was honoured by the British Empire with the Kings of Colors in 1853. The beautiful campus of the school boasts pine; deodar trees and a chapel forests, ivory bell-shaped flowers, bright golden-yellow blossoms etc surround it.
Dharampur: Situated at a distance of 15 km Kasauli on the National Highway No.22. Dharampur has one of the best hospitals in the world to cure tuberculosis. The hospital is situated amidst the healthy air of the fragrant pines. This place is also connected by the Kalka-Shimla railway line.
It is a small cantonment town having a Gurkha fort. The fort was built in the early years of the 19th century. This cantonment town is situated at an altitude of 1,437m.
Dagshai: It is a small cantonment sited at an altitude of 1,925m. It is situated at a distance of 19-km from Kasauli and is accessible by a link road, which diverts from Dharampur. Dagshai has a military public school and numerous military barracks. This place was the favorite haunt of British families.
Karol Tibba and Meteol Tibba are pretty spots. Kotla Nallah with its stream the Saproon spring and the Happy Valley are delightful locations on the River Giri that are excellent for angling.
