According to climatology the climate of a place depends upon its altitude, the higher the altitude is, the more cooler and soothing is the climate. Maybe this is a reason that the Shillong (Khasi and Jaintia hills) have cold weather conditions. The monsoons season begins in June and it rains almost till the end of the month of August. Shillong has a cool climate throughout the year. During the summer the maximum temperature of 24°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C have been observed. Winters months from November to February are freezing and have a minimum temperature of around 0°C. The dense cover of fog engulfs the entire region. In fact, this is the best time when revelers could get spectacular views of mountains to bind in the palatial tapestry of beauty and serendipity. A visit during the monsoon season would turn as a great obstruction for the travelers. The landslides and heavy flow of debris is quite common.  The monsoon showers are accompanied by heavy winds and rainfalls which further leads to hail storms and floods in some parts of Shillong.
