It does not matter whether you are planning to take your family on vacation, you want to have romantic moments with your love all alone, or you just want to tour the rich heritage of India. Udaipur will make you feel like you are lost.

Udaipur City Palace

Built on the shores of Lake Pichola stands the massive Udaipur City Palace. For almost four centuries, successive Mewar kings constructed it, exemplifying their architectural acumen. Several palaces, courtyards, and gardens constitute this palace complex, each reflecting a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles. Among other things, mirror work, murals made from marble carvings, and inlay work intensify the beauty of the palace itself. Inside, there is a museum that contains royal artefacts such as photographs.

Lake Palace

The Lake Palace is an iconic building situated on an island called Jag Niwas in Lake Pichola. It became a luxury hotel run by the Taj Group after Maharana Jagat Singh II had built it between 1743 and 1746. With white marble walls reflecting off the lake’s waterline at sunrise or sunset (or both), it appears to be floating atop the lake. The palace has black and white marble walls decorated with semi-precious stones plus carved niches. This was previously used as a summer resort by Mewar Royalties before becoming one of the world’s best hotels renowned for its royal service experiences.

Jagmandir

Covering Jagmandir, an ancient palace established during the 17th century on a separate island in Lake Pichola. It was also known as ‘Lake Garden Palace’ and was built by Maharana Karan Singh II, who left it incomplete, but it was finished by his successor, Maharana Jagat Singh I. During the time of Shah Jahan’s rebellion against Jahangir, this palace provided him with sanctuary. Jagmandir is decorated with marble structures that have intricately carved features and wide open courtyards. Beautiful gardens surround the compound, offering one of the best places to walk at leisure while enjoying views of both the lake and the city palace.

Jagdish Temple

The Jagdish Temple is one of the major Hindu temples located within Udaipur City. The architectural design of this temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is believed to be responsible for the preservation of human existence, is breathtaking. In 1651, Maharana Jagat Singh constructed it in Indo-Aryan style. Some of its prominent features range from intricately carved pillars, beautifully painted ceilings and a stunning black stone idol of Lord Vishnu. It has remained an important pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from various parts of India. This temple remains open from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm, which gives people sufficient time to explore its splendour and significance.

Saheliyon Ki Bari

Saheliyon Ki Bari, also known as “The Garden of the Maidens”, is located on the shore of Fateh Sagar Lake. Maharana Sangram Singh built it for the ladies in waiting. Its lush foliage, fountains, kiosks, marble elephants and delightful lotus pool have made it famous. It is an oasis of tranquillity with intricately carved marble pavilions and fountains ideal for taking a leisurely walk through. It opens at 9:00 AM and shuts down at 7:00 PM; adults pay ?10 while children ?5.

Sajjangarh Palace

The Monsoon Palace, which is another name for Sajjangarh Palace, is an ancient residence located on a hill in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Constructed by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1884 as he was the seventy-second ruler of the Mewar Dynasty and situated at the height of 944 metres above sea level, the palace provides fantastic and complete views of the town and nearby lakes. The architecture has a combination that is magnificent, namely, Rajasthani and Mughal styles, because it stands on white marble and has complicated carvings. Originally meant to be an astronomical centre for watching monsoon clouds and forecasting rainfall, it was later converted to serve as a summer retreat for the royal household. The construction site was chosen on purpose by architects who aimed to create a place where people could find peace during the hot summer months. Therefore, up to date, this monument still stands tall as an indicator of history, making Udaipur one of those places that cannot escape tourists’ notice when they visit India. It opens at 8:00 AM to about 6:00 PM.

Fateh Sagar Lake

Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake named after Maharana Fateh Singh. Many tourists flock here thanks to its scenic beauty and peaceful ambience, which make it one of Udaipur's favourite tourist spots. The lake has forest-covered hills that make people love picnics due to their shade or boating escapades, which can be enjoyed here only, along with boat rides that offer an unparalleled view of the lake, including its surroundings. Nehru Park Island is the largest island.

Lake Pichola

In Udaipur, one will find Lake Pichola, which is one of the most scenic lakes. The lake has a long history that dates back to 1362 AD. It has numerous palaces, temples and ghats surrounding it. The views from Lake Pichola while on a boat ride around are simply stunning as one gets an opportunity to have a glimpse of City Palace, Lake Palace and Jagmandir. In the evening, when the sun sets behind hills and palaces are mirrored in the waters, it is particularly beautiful.

Udaisagar Lake

Udaisagar Lake is another artificial lake in Udaipur, built by Maharana Udai Singh in 1565. It is known for picnics and offers a peaceful environment away from the city commotion. It was developed amidst lush green fields and mountains; therefore, it presents itself as an ideal place for nature lovers or people who just want to get rid of urban congestion.

Jiyan Sagar

A few kilometres outside of Udaipur lies Jiyan Sagar, also known as Badi Ka Talab. This lake was established by Maharana Raj Singh I during the seventeenth century and has become quite popular with picnickers because of its location near the hills, which form excellent picnic spots due to their picturesque vista offering. The three artistic chhatris (cenotaphs) that enclose this water body make it look calm and serene all around them.
