The capital city of Rajasthan has, in Jaipur, an attraction which sported another beauty, that is, the Jal Mahal, known also as the Water Palace, in the centre of Man Sagar Lake. And the Jal Mahal has got its eye-popping makeover. It has been replete with beautiful traditional wooden Rajput-style boats crafted by boat-makers from Vrindavan.
It is in the soft lapping of oars on the clear waters of the lake, that you are carried up to the Jal Mahal. From the decorated hallways and chambers of the first floor, you climb up to the sweet-scented Chameli Bagh. Across the lake are hills dotted with temples and ancient forts; but on the other side is bustling Jaipur.
The biggest change, though, has been to the lake itself. The outfalls have been diverted and two million tonnes of poisonous silt scooped from the bottom of it, giving a depth of over a metre, the water treatment plant developed, local plant and wildlife introduced, wetlands restored around the surrounding countryside, and five nesting islands devised to encourage migratory birds.
Majestic Aravalli hills surround the Jal Mahal Jaipur on all sides that give a beautiful backdrop to this palace. This palace, coupled with its crystal blue water and greeneries around it, helps in presenting a serene atmosphere perfect for photography and relaxation. This palace can look enchanting at the sunrise and sunset time when the rays of the sun can come back from its surface, reflected into the water.
