Panna Meena Ka Kund was established in the 16th century, the place is also acknowledged by using many different names by local people some of which are just gatherings of the original name of the local language. A baori or a stepwell is an idea solely originating from the Indian subcontinent and had been the most popular supply of water in the course of the antique times.

These are man-made swimming pools of water that can be reached through descending a series of stairwells. Panna Meena ka Kund Jaipur is one of the many famous stepwell that still stand within the western part of India, in which they were primarily built. The authentic reason for this Baori was to supply the locals with water for ingesting and different daily needs, especially for the duration of the dry summers, in addition to crop irrigation.

The kund also served as a community centre for the societies living around. People would gather and sit on the multiple levels of stairwell, and exchange conversation. Although Panna Meena ka Kund has now stopped being a source of water, it still serves as a place for locals and tourists alike to gather and spend some time chit-chatting.

During summertime and monsoon, you can see young neighbourhood boys competing among themselves by jumping into the pool from the edge of the Kund above. Elderlies sit alongside the various staircases, and it is also a fantastic area for couples to spend some fine time together, dangling their legs off the threshold of the stairwells. Panna Meena ka Kund upholds its history by being the network centre it constantly becomes.

The history of Panna Meena Ka Kund is said by locals that there is no specific thing written about who and how the Panna Meena Ka Kund came into existence. In the absence of those, local people have taken the liberty to forge folklore of their own, and the most popular version is that there was a courtesan in the royal court of Maharaja Jai Singh in Amer Fort, a eunuch by the name of Panna Miah, under whose patronage this stepwell was created.

Travellers on Jaipur Tour Packages will find this stepwell an ideal stop between visiting Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, as it is conveniently located nearby. Its offbeat nature makes it a peaceful retreat away from the bustling tourist crowds.
