Overview

The state of Jammu Kashmir is the northernmost state of our country. On the whole, the state is broadly divided into three major regions viz. History:The foundation of Kashmir is said to have lain by the Kashyapa also referred to as the Kashyapamar The earliest people on this cold land are believed to be nomads leaving a nomadic life with their cattle. Buddhism influenced Kashmir during the rule of Ashoka. Varied traditions and customs are believed to have existed till the reign of the Muslims. The Mughals have a deep influence on the land.

Huge mountains cover most part of the land of Jammu and Kashmir. The Himalayan ranges cover almost the entire part of the serene land. The heights of the mountain ranges vary from 3000 to 6000 meters. Some are even above this range. There are many rivers, which increase the beauty of the place to a large extent. The number of streams, rivers and hill torrents are fairly large. The important rivers in the region are Jehlum, Chenab, Indus and Ravi.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir is full of flora and fauna. It is famous for its rich flora and fauna. There are many varieties of plants throughout the state. The varieties of plants differ from place to place within the state. In Jammu, one can find thick bush type plants scattered over the region. There is temperate and alpine flora also in Jammu. At higher altitudes, there are Berbers, rhododendron, birch, and other herbal plants. The Kashmir valley is abundant in wood and the game. The most wonderful variety of trees found in the Kashmir valley are the trees of Chinar found almost everywhere in the valley.

Talking about the fauna in the region, there is a huge and wide-ranging fauna including bear, sheep, cheetah, leopard, deer, muskrat, snake, bat, lizard, frog, peacock, snow partridge and pheasant. In Ladakh also there is rich fauna including Himalayan Ibex, red bear, gazelle, yak, and antelope.
