This is the small island that is named after Lord Shiva where Umanada translates to “Bliss of Uma ”(Uma the another name for Devi Parvatiji. The island is known as Peacock Island it is located in the Brahmaputra River near Guwahati. It is well-known for its smallest inhabited riverine island in the world.
Umananda Island is home to the Umananda Temple which is an important religious site which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple was built in 1694 by the Ahom King Gadahar Singha, the temple is an architectural wonder which shows beautiful rock-cut sculptures and engravings.
