Vadodara
Vadodara, anciently called Baroda, is an important city in Gujarat which is located close to Vishwamitri River. This city has its roots back to the 9th century when it was known as Ankottaka by Jains. During the various reigns of Vadodara, including those of Dor Rajputs, who renamed it Chandanavati and later Maratha Gaekwads, who made it their capital in the 18th century, it developed differently. In particular, under his successor, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the Gaekwad dynasty played a vital role in the development of Vadodara, transforming it into an educational, industrial and cultural centre. The golden period of Vadodara was during Sayajirao’s reign from 1875 to 1939, characterised by several reforms and the establishment of institutions such as Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, among others.

Presently referred to as "Sanskari Nagari" or "City of Culture", Vadodara has an active cultural scene and is historically important. Laxmi Vilas Palace, Sayaji Baug (Garden) and Baroda Museum & Picture Gallery are popular tourist destinations within the city limits. Also considered a hotspot for petrochemicals, engineering products, pharmaceutical manufacturing and power equipment production, Vadodara enjoys significant economic benefits today that accrue from these sectors.

It has 54% vegetation coverage which makes it nicknamed India’s tree capital as a result of this lush greenery. The city experiences a tropical wet and dry climate characterised by hot summers, monsoonal rains and mild winters. Some of these landmarks include an enormous Hindu temple complex called Akshardham Temple as well as a convention centre named Mahatma Mandir which is an abbreviation for Gandhi.
