Guwahati Zoo

Guwahati Zoo which is also known as the Assam State Zoo is also called a Botanical Garden that is located in the heart of Guwahati Assam. This zoo was established in 1957 and is situated within the scenic Hengrabari Reserve Forest which covers an area of about 432 acres. The zoo is a main attraction offering a diverse range of animals, birds and reptiles worldwide which include several endangered and exotic species.

Approximately 900 animals and around 113 species of birds can be witnessed here. The main animals include the Royal Bengal Tiger,  Asian Elephants, One-horned Rhinoceros, Hoolock Gibbon and many types of exotic birds and reptiles found here. The botanical garden is part of the zoo complex which features a wide range of indigenous and exotic plant species adding to the natural beauty and educational value of the zoo.

How To Reach

To reach Guwahati Zoo, take an auto-rickshaw or taxi from the city centre. Public buses and app-based cab services are also available. The zoo is located in Hengrabari, about 6 km from the city centre.
