This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the invocation of the temple combines two meanings “Uma” which is any other invocation to Goddess Parvati and "Ananda" which means happiness and symbolizes the union of divine love and happiness.


Umananda Temple is a well-known Hindu temple located on Mayur Island in the Brahmaputra River near Guwahati Assam, India. Built by the Ahom king Gadadhar Singh in 1694, the temple exhibits a combination of Assamese and Mughal architecture. ?Despite prolonged damage caused by the 1897 earthquake, it was later restored with the help of a local contractor. ? ?


The temple is very important for the duration of the Mahashivratri pageant which attracts many devotees who come to offer prayers and participate in many rituals. ?The island is also home to the endangered Golden Langur, which makes it especially beautiful.
